Starting point
These details improve the estimate. Nothing here changes your saved profile.
Your answers calculate movement volume only. This is educational, not medical advice, and it does not promise a particular weight change.
How the walking plan is calculated
The plan starts from the continuous walking time you say feels comfortable, then limits each session to the time and days you actually have. Beginners receive a smaller starting volume. Weekly progression stays below 10%, and brisk intervals are removed when a gentler plan is selected.
Start where you are
Current movement and comfortable walking time set the baseline.
Fit real life
Chosen days, session length, terrain, and preferences shape the week.
Build gradually
A four-week progression grows volume without sudden jumps.
Energy estimates use standard metabolic-equivalent arithmetic and a broad uncertainty range. General activity guidance is informed by the World Health Organization physical activity guidance and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Walking plan FAQ
How much should I walk for weight management?
The useful amount is the amount you can repeat consistently. This calculator starts from your current comfortable walking time and availability, then builds weekly volume gradually rather than assigning everyone the same step target.
Does the calculator guarantee weight loss?
No. It estimates walking volume and a broad activity-energy range. Body-weight change also depends on food intake, appetite, metabolism, medication, sleep, other activity and health conditions, so no walking calculator can promise a result.
Do I need to know my daily steps?
No. Daily steps improve the starting-point estimate, but you can use a plain-language activity level instead. The plan is based mainly on your current walking ability and realistic weekly availability.
What counts as a brisk walk?
A practical guide is the talk test: at a comfortable pace you can speak normally; at a brisk pace you breathe faster but can still speak in short sentences. The calculator avoids pretending one speed fits everyone.
Can beginners use this walking plan?
Yes. Choosing Starting fresh reduces the opening session length and keeps progression gradual. You can also select low impact to favor comfortable walking and flatter ground.
When should I speak with a clinician before walking?
Get professional guidance before starting if you have a condition that limits activity or if walking causes chest pain, dizziness, unusual breathlessness, faintness or worsening pain. The calculator removes brisk intervals when you select a health concern, but it cannot assess medical safety.
