How much bacteriostatic water to add
There is no single correct volume. Choose the amount of bacteriostatic water that puts your usual dose between roughly 10 and 30 units on a U-100 syringe. A 10 mg vial in 2 mL gives 5 mg/mL, so a 500 mcg dose is 10 units.
Pick the volume that makes your dose readable
The only rule that matters: the water volume should put your usual dose somewhere around 10 to 30 units on the syringe you own. Below five units, a half-unit misread is a 10% dosing error. Above 50 units, you are drawing large volumes for no benefit.

Things that go wrong at this step
- Adding more water than the vial can physically hold, then losing the overflow.
- Reconstituting with tap, saline or sterile water when the vial is meant to last weeks.
- Shaking instead of swirling, which foams and denatures the peptide.
- Wiping the stopper with nothing. Alcohol-swab it before every entry, not just the first.
- Using a volume someone posted online rather than the one your dose needs.
- Freezing an already reconstituted vial — refrigerate it instead.

- Sterile water has no preservative, so a vial reconstituted with it is intended for a single use and has a very short in-use window. Bacteriostatic water contains 0.9% benzyl alcohol, which is what makes multi-day use of a multi-dose vial reasonable.
- How do I add the water without damaging the peptide?
- Aim the stream down the inside wall of the vial rather than directly onto the powder, then swirl gently until it clears. Do not shake — foaming at the air–liquid interface denatures peptide. If it does not dissolve in a few minutes, leave it in the fridge rather than agitating it.
- What should I write on the vial?
- The water volume you added and the date you added it. Without the volume, every future unit calculation is a guess; without the date, the beyond-use date is unknowable. Both take five seconds and prevent the two most common dosing errors.
